Gastric Bypass surgery is one of the most popular weight loss procedures in the United States. In addition, it is among the most expensive and difficult to perform. A patient wishing to undergo this surgery should be well aware of all the possible costs.
The most oft-quoted gastric bypass price is $ 1923. In this surgical procedure, the weight loss surgeon creates a small pouch at the top of the stomach and then removes some of the upper intestine. Patients who have undergone gastric bypass have experienced many significant health benefits and have lost up to 67 percent of excess weight. The surgery has also shown a high success rate and patients have maintained the results for a long period of time.
Another procedure often discussed when discussing weight loss surgery is called Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. It requires making a small incision in the small intestines. Then, a small amount of stomach pouch (stoma) is created. A large amount of the food passing through the pouch will be absorbed by the bloodstream. The remaining portion of the food will be eliminated via the toilet. This procedure may include some blood loss, but typically not enough to be a cause for concern.
Another option often considered for weight loss surgery is a bariatric surgery procedure known as vertical sleeve gastrectomy or VSM. In this procedure, an incision is made in the abdomen where the fat cells are extracted. The upper part of the stomach is then trimmed in order to create a much smaller stomach. This procedure may also include removal of some of the upper part of the stomach, which is important because VSM often causes feelings of nausea and heartburn. However, patients who undergo this procedure generally find that it works well and no serious complications arise.
The most recent procedure developed to remove excess stomach fat is Smartlipo. This is a high tech surgical procedure where a tiny camera digitally attached to the end of a wand or thin cable is used to inject a solution directly into the fat cells. Once these cells are killed, the doctor can then use surgical threads to cut through the tissue. This procedure provides a much faster method of getting rid of unwanted stomach fat.
Because of the extreme nature of most weight loss surgeon procedures, potential candidates should have a good body mass index. This means that there is typically no need for IV sedation and there are no complications with the surgical wounds. The surgical wounds are small and if they are proper candidates for gastric bypass surgery, scarring is usually minimal. However, if they do not meet the above criteria for surgical weight loss surgery, it is possible that other surgical procedures could be considered.
Surgical weight loss procedures have come a long way over the last few decades. The older procedures were problematic because they often required large incisions and patients often suffered from post-surgical infections. Modern surgical practices now offer a much safer procedure where patients rarely suffer from infection and bruising, but in some cases surgical wounds can be more damaging to the body than others. For patients that don't have the option of traditional surgery, there are still other surgical options available to them. Patients may consider gastric banding as a weight loss surgeon option, where a band is surgically installed around the top of the stomach to force it to decrease in size.
Gastric banding isn't the only option for many obese patients. Dr. Ahmad uses an innovative new surgical method that uses lasers to help reposition the gut and tighten it up. The laser is able to accomplish this without making incisions. As a result, patients generally feel much better the day after their treatment. The best weight loss surgery doctors are those that not only provide surgical services, but those that are able to provide patients with expert consultations and guidance in losing weight.
